DAVID W. CASE
Associate Professor of Law

Professor Case joined the faculty at Ole Miss in 2007 after spending six years as an Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Memphis. He teaches Environmental Law, Environmental Torts, Administrative Law, Property, and Civil Procedure.

From 1998 to 2001, Professor Case was a Bridgestone Americas Fellow in Environmental Management at Vanderbilt University and a Research Associate with the Vanderbilt Center for Environmental Management Studies (VCEMS). He earned his Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies: Environmental Law, Management and Policy from Vanderbilt in 2004. Case has a J.D. from the University of Mississippi School of Law, where he was the Comments Editor of the Mississippi Law Journal. He also has an LL. M. from Columbia University and a B.A. from the University of Mississippi.

Professor Case practiced law for seven years first as an associate and later a partner with the law firm of Ott & Purdy in Jackson, Mississippi. In 1993, he was also a trial and appellate attorney in the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. (Civil Division, Commercial Litigation Branch). Professor Case served as a federal judicial clerk for the Honorable Rhesa H. Barksdale of the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals during the 1991-1992 term, and for the Honorable James C. Sumner of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi during the 1993-1994 term.

Professor Case’s legal scholarship primarily focuses on environmental law and management. He has published articles in the Emory Law Journal, the Environmental Law Reporter, the Mississippi College Law Review, the Mississippi Law Journal, the University of Colorado Law Review, the University of Memphis Law Review, the Washington & Lee Law Review, and the William & Mary Environmental Law & Policy Review.
