Call for Nominations Goes Out for Public Service Award
Nominations are open for the Law School Public Service Award. The annual
award honors a graduate of the School of Law whose devotion to the public
good is demonstrated by an outstanding record of public service. The terms
of the award further stipulate: "The recipient will have made substantial
contributions through work in government service, public interest law, educational
activities, pro bono work, and/or community service."
Previous recipients of the Public Service Award are Catherine V. "Ginny"
Kilgore ('75), 2002; Constance Slaughter-Harvey ('70), 2001; Luther Ott
('73), 2000; and Bobby DeLaughter ('77), 1999.
Nomination deadline for the 2003 award is Aug. 31, 2003. Please mail nominations
to Dean Samuel M. Davis, 309 Lamar Law Center, The University of Mississippi,
P.O. Box 1848, University, MS 38677-1848.
Nominations are forwarded to a faculty committee, which recommends a recipient
to the full Law School faculty for approval. The winner receives an engraved
plaque, has his or her name engraved on a permanent plaque that hangs in
the Law School, and is honored at a dinner in the fall.
