MESSAGES FROM THE CHANCELLOR AND DEAN

A MESSAGE FROM CHANCELLOR ROBERT KHAYAT

When the doors of The University of Mississippi Law School opened in 1854, the University took the leadership role in training lawyers and providing excellent educational opportunities. One hundred forty-nine years later, we have a rich history of producing outstanding graduates who have assumed leadership responsibilities throughout our state, region, and nation.

As an Ole Miss School of Law graduate, I was challenged in the classroom, Moot Court, the Law Journal, and by legal scholars and judges from all over the nation. My experience broadened my perceptions, providing scholarship, leadership, and career opportunities that focused on public service.

A degree from The University of Mississippi School of Law is universally respected. Our school has experienced growth, with an enrollment today of about 500 students, a distinguished faculty of 31, and an extensive Law Library. We are located in one of America’s most beautiful college towns and enjoy a strong partnership with the city of Oxford and its citizens.

We encourage you to seriously consider The University of Mississippi School of Law. It will prepare you well with a rich foundation in law, along with the skills needed in today’s global community, and it will bring immeasurable benefits to you throughout your professional life as you serve your community, state, nation, and the world.

A MESSAGE FROM DEAN SAMUEL M. DAVIS

The University of Mississippi School of Law has a rich tradition of excellence, offering an exceptional blend of doctrinal, theory, and skills courses in a nurturing environment. In fact, the quality of legaleducation available at The University of Mississippi for a low cost is an opportunity unmatched by any other law school in America.

Throughout the 1990s and into the 21st century, the Law School has enjoyed an ascendancy virtually unparalleled in American legal education. The school has risen steadily in various national rankings, including U.S. News and World Report, which now places it in the Top 100. Its moot court teams have won national championships, including the prestigious Saul Lefkowitz Trademark Moot Court Competition, and have advanced to the finals of the National First Amendment Competition. Our student:faculty ratio continues to be reduced, assuring small classes and outstanding interaction between students and faculty.

Attending law school at the University is exciting, dynamic, and rewarding. It’s also fun, due in large part to the advantage that we have of being located in Oxford, one of the best small towns in America. Oxford is also home to William Faulkner and John Grisham, two men who have had much to say about the world of law.

So I invite you to come to Oxford and to The University of Mississippi. There is simply no better place for a law student to experience, learn, and grow.
